Welcome to the Northern Racing College - Centre of Excellence for the Racing Industry

Beacon Award

The Northern Racing College was awarded Learning and Skills Beacon Status on the 9 May 2007.

This follows on from the outstanding overall grade in the 2006 ALI Inspection, and being named as one of 18 "best of the best" training providers in the 2006 Chief Inspectors Annual Report.

Learning and Skills Beacon status provides public recognition of the excellence and innovation which exists within the further education system. This prestigious award celebrates learning providers that deliver outstanding teaching and learning. Excellent leadership and management is also a defining feature of all Beacons. It is for providers funded by the Learning and Skills Council and inspected by the Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED).

The thinking at the heart of Beacon status is to drive up standards of provision in fresh and innovative ways. Beacon Status was launched by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) in 2002, and is now managed by the Quality Improvement Agency (QIA).

Beacon status ensures that other training providers can now share in the high quality training provision that students enjoy at the Northern Racing College. The college is committed to helping other colleges by guiding them and sharing best practices with them.
