The Conditional Licence and Amateur Category 'B' Course is combined. The course is open to any rider wishing to take out a Category 'B' permit subject to the existing pre-qualifying conditions and for potential Conditional Jockeys.

Trainers should apply to Laura Monger at The British Horseracing Authority on 020 7189 3848 lmonger@britishhorseracing.com for a place for Conditional Jockeys and Amateur Riders.

Cost

The cost for a conditional jockey to attend is met by their employer and includes tuition, use of horses and facilities, food and accommodation.

During 2011 the cost for amateur riders to attend this course will be met by the British Horseracing Authority. This includes tuition, use of horses and facilities, food and accommodation. Funded places are limited to ten riders.

Once the ten funded places have been offered the cost for amateur riders to attend the Category B Course will be £757.00 (inc VAT).

Amateur riders wishing to attend this course must meet the following criteria:

  • Achieved at least 15 completed rides under the Rules of Racing in Great Britian, the majority of which must be over obstacles (winners of Point-to-Point Steeplechases may count towards this total).

OR

  • Achieved at least 20 placed rides (1st, 2nd and 3rd only) in Point-to-Point Steeplechases and/or completed under the Rules of Racing over obstacles.

Please note the granting of a Category 'B' Permit is not automatic and will be dependent on the Licensing Committee being satisfied that the applicant has gained sufficient experience and meets the standards to ride against professionals.
